Alan Wills
Business Development Manager
Alan joined Miad in 2008 as a Business Manager and is responsible for the development of our blended learning courses and their application into the NHS. He has over 35 years experience as a business manager and organisational change consultant. Alan is an entrepreneur who over the course of his career has been involved in a number of successful product launches in the UK, Europe, USA and the Far East. He has also completed a number of Keynote speaking engagements at major client events. Away from Miad Alan enjoys spending time with his children and a few outdoor water activities.

Associate Consultant
Alys joined the Miad team of Associate Consultants in 2008 and trains in leadership, coaching, teaching and learning and several other courses. She wrote the content for our SAS doctors Leadership e-learning material. Alys started in the NHS as an Occupational Therapist working in Mental Health before moving into training and management roles in London Trusts and policy roles with the Institute of Health Services Management and the King’s Fund. Since becoming an independent 15 years ago, she has specialised in the people aspects of change and worked extensively in public, private and voluntary sector, and while the context for each is different, the people issues remain perennial. Alys is a Senior Associate with the Health Services Management Centre at the University of Birmingham, an accredited consultant in the MBTI, MiRo and TMP tools, and a Master Practitioner of neuro-linguistic programming. Away from Miad, her time is largely taken up with her two small boys, her new vegetable garden, and reading a novel a week.

Operations Assistant
Anna joined Miad in 2008 as Course Administrator and now administers all documentation for the courses we run throughout the UK. After finishing her A Levels Anna spent some time working in the retail Industry before making a career change. She has an exceptional eye for detail which makes her the perfect person to run all the administrative requirements for our courses and ensure all the workshops run smoothly. Away from Miad Anna has just celebrated her 21st Birthday and likes to read, spend time with her friends and attend music events.

Associate Consultant
Carol joined the Miad team as Associate Consultant in 2009 and now not only delivers a number of management & leadership and personal skills development courses on our behalf but also contributes to some of our consultancy projects too. Having spent the first 15 years of her life growing up in Penang (Malaysia) Carol later qualified as a chartered psychologist and management consultant with a doctorate from Leeds University. Since 1992 she has worked with a wide range of organisations in the private and public sectors as facilitator, trainer and coaching consultant. Away from Miad Carol has recently married and likes to spend time with her new husband at their second home in Italy. She also loves to windsurf and ski and enjoys country sports whenever the opportunity arises.

Associate Consultant
Cathy joined Miad as an Associate Consultant in 2008 and now runs courses on Educational Supervision, Management & Leadership, Appraisal and Personal Skills predominantly in the Northern Deaneries and NHS Trusts. She has over 20 years experience as an academic, teaching and researching in higher education and worked at Board level in the NHS for 10 years. She has been Chair of both a combined Primary Care and Mental Health Trust and a large University Hospitals Trust. Cathy has also edited a number of academic books and published articles, including work on teaching and learning and equality and diversity issues. She has a wide range of experience as a consultant advising other universities on course development, quality assurance and validation proposals, and has held many external examiner roles. She has also worked extensively as an adviser, consultant and facilitator to various voluntary organisations, local councils and other agencies. Away from Miad Cathy also teaches yoga and provides yoga therapy to a range of individuals and groups, for example, people with ME, Parkinson’s disease and mental health problems. She is a trustee for South Lakeland Mind and lives in Cumbria and is a keen swimmer and fell walker.

Chris Barnes CB, BSc (Econ), FRSA, FI Hort
Associate Consultant
Chris has been a Miad Associate Consultant since 2003. He covers all aspects of our training and development work, including management, leadership and personal skills. Prior to that he was a non-Executive Director and then Chairman of Buckinghamshire Health Authority, where he led the introduction of PCGs and PCTs and the move to a whole health system. He is a very experienced trainer, facilitator and coach who has a long track record of working successfully with hospital doctors, GPs and other members of the NHS. He also coaches those who have to work with and brief Ministers; and those who wish to increase their marketability and improve their chances of success at interview, working mainly with senior people in the Civil Service, the NHS and the wider public sector.
Chris had a long career with the Civil Service where his last post before his early retirement was as a Corporate Affairs Director of a government department. He has also chaired two companies in the food sector and been Managing Director and Director of two consultancies. He led the introduction of the Red Tractor food assurance mark. He has a BSc Econ from the London School of Economics, is a Companion of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath (CB) and is a fellow of both the Royal Society of Arts, Commerce and Manufacturing (FRSA) and the Institute of Horticulture (FI Hort). Chris is also an Associate of the National School of Government;
And he chairs the Governing Board of the UK’s largest food auditing and assurance business. He has much experience of recruitment and was a Civil Service Selection Board Chair, recruiting graduates for the “fast stream”. He is currently an Independent Assessor for the Office of the Commissioner for Public Appointments.
Away from Miad, Chris is married with four children. His interests include France and driving in off road competitions.

Head of Operations
David joined Miad in 2009 to Head up the Operations Team and is responsible for co-ordinating and developing all operations support, marketing, training and staffing functions. He has spent 22 years in Recruitment developing nationwide operations within the executive, commercial, financial, technical, HR, Driving & Industrial recruitment sectors with his most recent role being that of Brand Development Director (Sales Director) for Angela Mortimer Plc. Away from Miad David is Married with two daughters and two grandsons. He is a huge sports fan, and has represented Great Britain both as player and manager at three world championships in the game of Petanque (French Boule).

Business Development Manager
Gareth joined Miad in 2008 and has a split responsibility between New Business Development and as a Licensed practitioner of the Leadership Development Framework he also designs and delivers a number of Miad’s Management & Leadership workshops. Prior to joining Miad Gareth has enjoyed a successful 20 year career designing and delivering inspirational management & leadership programmes for private and public sector organisations across Europe and North America. He has also formed and led a highly successful Consultancy and Training company, and had successful Director and Senior Management roles in a number of organisations. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Training and Occupational Learning. Away from Miad Gareth is a former first class rugby player and county captain; he is also a qualified rugby coach.

Linda joined Miad when it began in 1995 and has seen it grow from strength to strength. In her role as Operations Assistant Linda deals with incoming enquiries, processing bookings and client services. Prior to joining Miad Linda travelled extensively with her family living in Boston (USA) The Hague and Brussels before returning to the UK in 1989. Away from Miad Linda enjoys nothing more than a game of Golf with her girlfriends, Dancing, the Theatre, Eating Out and spoiling her new Grandaughter.

Planning and Resource Manager
Elizabeth joined the Miad team in 2000 as a Training and Development Consultant and is now our Planning & Resource Manager, responsible for planning, design, delivery and quality control of all out courses to meet GMC requirements and co-ordinating our team of training consultants. Prior to joining Miad Elizabeth has gained a wealth of experience in both the public and private sector. She also undertook a 3 year role with Conoco(UK) project managing a highly successful leadership initiative both overseas and within the UK alongside assisting the company in managing a culture change and effectively designing and facilitating teambuilding seminars. Elizabeth is also an Associate Lecturer for De Montfort University and has written and project managed major organisational training strategies for trusts. Away from Miad you will most likely find Liz on the golf course or spending time with her 2 children or ferrying them between a variety of clubs and classes!

Medical Director
Mike joined Miad as an Associate in 2008, and was appointed as Medical Director to Strontium, the Miad parent company, in 2009. Mike has particular responsibility for our courses and training resources on “Poorly performing Trainees”, “Career development” and more recently “Revalidation”.
After qualifying from the Middlesex Hospital Medical School in 1981 Mike initially he followed a surgical career path before moving into Accident and Emergency Medicine. During his training he worked in Canterbury, Sheffield, Leeds and London gaining wide clinical experience across many specialties including general, paediatric, plastic, cardiothoracic and orthopaedic surgery, paediatric and general medicine, intensive therapy, psychiatry and general practice. He has been a Consultant in Emergency Medicine at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital since 1992.
Mike has taken an interest in health care management since he was in training completing the Open University Health Services Management course. Subsequently he took on many local, regional and national management roles; projects included hospital design and health care IT development and implementation. In 1999 he was appointed by the Secretary of State for Health in England to lead a £115M modernisation programme for Accident and Emergency (A&E) services in England.
Mike is Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of East Anglia Medical School and most recently has taken particular responsibility for coaching and mentoring trainee doctors and undergraduates in difficulty.
Away from medicine, his interests are rugby, particularly refereeing, and watercolour painting.
Patricia Henderson BA (Hons), DMS
Associate Consultant
Patricia joined Miad in 2008 as an Associate consultant and now delivers our wide variety of Management & Leadership and Personal Skills courses throughout the South. She has also designed some elements of our courses and contributed to our consultancy projects. Patricia has held successful sales, service and project management roles for over 20 years with major global organisations including brands such as GE (USA) and Johnson & Johnson (USA) and a number of Management Consultancies. Since 1998 Patricia has focused on Learning and Development, facilitating and coaching opportunities, working across a variety of organisations, coupled with her experience in both the public and private sector this has helped her forge a highly successful career in this arena.

Senior Consultant
Van joined Miad as a Training Consultant in 2004 and is now our Senior Consultant not only delivering a wide range of courses for us throughout the UK but also researching, designing and implementing courses aimed at developing and improving NHS professionals. He has held senior positions and directorships in a variety of industries and organisations from Government Departments, to Plcs and smaller private sector enterprises. This included a role as Director of Seiko in New York and Finance Director of a National Charity in the UK. His role before joining Miad UK was to manage an organisation of trainers and educators providing a range of training and consultancy solutions to Government Departments. Away from Miad Van has a number of very physical interests of which he is hugely passionate, Skiing (an annual visitor to Switzerland), Sailing (a summer pursuit) and Cycling (an all year round challenge).
